Train Your Ears: A Free Browser Game for Sound Engineers Good mixing starts with good listening. Knowing what a 2 dB change or a 3 kHz boost sounds like is a skill, and like any skill it improves with practice. So I built a small ear-training game that runs right in your browser. Open the Ear Trainer: https://claude.ai/artifact/VbjLnGSxoTNsoNkNeU56we How it works Each round starts with 2 seconds of the original sound, then switches to the “quiz” version with something changed. Your job is to work out what changed and place your guess on the scale. Press Check to see the real answer. You can switch between Original, Quiz and My guess to compare your guess against the real thing. That comparison is the training. Turn on Hear while guessing if you want to hear your guess as you move the slider. What you can practice L/R: place a sound anywhere from hard left to hard right. M/S: find the balance between mid and side content. Gain: guess a level change between −10 and +10 dB. EQ ±12, ±6 and ±2: find the frequency of a boost or cut between 50 Hz and 10 kHz, then say whether it was + or −. The smaller the dB, the harder it gets. Note: hear a piano-style tone and pick the right note from four options. Use your own music Start with the built-in pink noise or a short demo loop, or upload your own tracks. Practicing on songs you know makes the training transfer much better to real mixes. Your files stay in your browser and aren’t uploaded anywhere. A tip: use stereo material for the M/S exercises, because a mono file has no side signal to find. Headphones help too, and keep the volume moderate. Give it a few minutes a day and see how your scores improve. Two notes before you publish. The link is private to you until you share the artifact, so use the share option on the publish card first, or visitors won’t be able to open it. Also, if you’d rather host the tool on your own Framer domain, I can give you the downloadable .html file to embed instead. I can also put this post in a file if you’d like.
